American music website Billboard has tipped superstar singer Tekno as the next Nigerian artiste to make a wave in the United States.

Tekno’s Pana, which was a smash hit in Nigeria last year, is currently making waves in the United States.

American superstars like Trey Songz and Ludacris have openly endorsed the song, with Columbia Records signing and re-releasing the track in December.

The website compares Tekno’s rising profile to artistes like P-Square, D’banj, Davido and Wizkid, who all broke into the American market at some point in time.

“You have an audience here that already know the record through the club scene — mixers, DJs,” Senior Vice President of A& R at Columbia Records, Imran Majid explained about the song’s growing success.

“Streaming helps because you don’t have to dig, it’s much easier to access. You already have a base, and that helps spread the word of mouth until the mainstream gets it.”
