Headies disqualify Tekno
The Hip Hop World Awards have announced that they will be withdrawing singer Tekno’s Next Rated award for the 2016 Headies.
According to the organizers of the awards, the Pana singer’s nomination was withdrawn because he failed to show up for a number of pre-nomination activities.
This doesn’t exactly come as a surprise, as Tekno had expressed his irritation at the nomination from the first time it was announced. “Next rated after how many years! Let’s be honest pls,” he had posted on Instagram.
In a letter to Made Men Music Group, the label to which Tekno is signed, the award organizers revealed that the activities, which included photoshoots and interviews, were “mandatory”, and that their decision was “final and irrevocable.”
Tekno’s dismissal leaves YCee, Aramide, Humblesmith and Mr. Eazi as the remaining contenders for the Next Rated award.
