Chief Adebayo Faleti, a prominent Nigerian journalist and actor in Nollywood, has passed on at the age of 86.

Faleti reportedly passed on around 6am on Sunday, July 23, at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. His death has been confirmed by members of his immediate family.

Faleti was among the inaugural staff of Africa’s first television station, Western Nigeria Television (WNTV).

Widely acclaimed for his knowledge of Yoruba, Faleti translated the national anthem into Yoruba. He also translated a host of speeches made by presidents from English to Yoruba.

His honours and awards include the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger, the Festival of Arts award with Eda Ko L’aropin (1995) and the Afro-Hollywood Award for Outstanding Performance in Arts.
