Singer Solidstar has issued an apology of sorts to The Hip Hop World Awards and the MTV Africa Music Awards in an Instagram post.
Solidstar had thrown shots at the MTV EMAs, who had awarded Wizkid the Best African Act award, only to take it back and give it to Tanzania’s Alikiba. Solidstar had also dissed the Headies for not nominating in the Best Reggae/Dancehall category for the 2016 awards.
Solidstar had written on social media: “Imagine an AWARD ceremony that calls itself credible, giving one artist an award and even made him make a video which was broadcasted on the screen at the award thanking them and later withdrawing the award to give to someone else. This shows the irregularities, partiality and mediocrity in the whole system. An award organizers recently released a list and even though I was nominated I wasn’t satisfied because the main category that would have meant a bit to me was missing on my nomination which is best raggae/dance hall. I can only pick one song out of the whole bunch that did a bit better than Wait refix ft Patoranking and Tiwa Savage for their year in view. No disrespect to any artist nominated or the organizers but somethings are just so wrong. A lot of talented artists have been ignored for so long that they even start doubting themselves. Even the Grammys which is also not 100 percent credible have their flaws but try as much as possible to recognize real talent These African Award organizers bring together some bunch of unqualified music critics and whatnot to set up the nomination list and that’s where the problem starts from and ????”
Solidstar seems to have changed his stance since them, and in a new Instagram post today, apologized to a number of media houses and award shows, including MTV, Trace TV and Hip TV.
Solidstar wrote: “Without platforms like @mtvbaseafrica @officialhiptv @soundcityafrica @afromusicpop @tracenaija @nigezietv all the other TV and radio stations and online platforms playing our videos, we would have worked way harder before getting any recognition after putting in so much work. They are the plug and once they pull it, the work will be extra for us artistes. Want to use this opportunity to appreciate all the support I’ve been getting so far from every platform that promotes music and all the ones that go out of their ways even without sponsors to organize awards and recognize our talents, I really appreciate what you all have done to put this industry on the map and try to build a structure. Mr @ayoanimashaun and every other investor that has contributed immensely in the growth of the entertainment industry, God bless you. We as artistes may sometimes rant and complain but we also need to look deep and see the hard work you all put in putting this industry together. You’re the plug and may God bless you all! #WEEDtheAlbum is out on all platforms. Please support by buying and sharing. Blessings! ????????”
Being a celebrity must be so hard. Not having to be able to say what’s really on your mind. Nice one, Solidstar!
