Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu has been named winner of the 2016 Ondo gubernatorial elections, INEC has announced.

INEC Chief Returning Officer, the University of Ilorin’s Professor Abdul Ganiyu Ambali, announced the All Progressive Congress candidate  as the winner on Sunday following the completion of voting.

Akeredolu’s 237,12 votes were enough for him to win, surpassing Eyitayo Jegede of the People Democratic Party, who had 145,367 votes. The Alliance for Democracy’s Olusola Oke was third with 104,111 votes.

The 60-year old governor-elect was formerly a chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association. He has won 14 of the 17 announced LGAs, with the result of the Ilaje LGA yet to be announced.
