Multiple deaths have been reported following suicide bomb attacks on the campus of the University of Maiduguri, Borno state.

According to the Borno State Police Command, one of the attacks took place at a mosque in the Senior Staff Quarters of the University, killing a professor and 4 others.

The attacks took place around the time Muslims were praying.

“At exactly 5:25 am, while I was leaving the mosque in my neighbourhood, I heard two explosions,” a local resident was reported as saying.

“I rushed to the university, which is not far from my house. On entering, I saw the mosque in a mess. Three people lay dead, including a young girl, whose body was badly mutilated. Thirteen other worshippers were injured.”

“There was twin suicide attacks in a mosque situated close to professors quarters, north of the University of Maiduguri this morning, scores were killed including two professors, students and staff,” another source told Vanguard.

The National Emergency Management Agency also confirmed the incident via its official Twitter account.

The University’s Public Relations Officer, Mallam Ahmed Mohammed confirmed the incident, but didn’t give more details.
