The Nigerian armed forces has been ranked as the 45th best in the world, according to the 2017 Global Firepower Index.
The ranking uses over 50 factors to determine a nation’s Power Index. Some of the parameters taken into account include number of weapons, weapon diversity, available resources and more.
Nuclear weaponry and stockpiles, which are not globally accepted, are not taken into account.
Unsurprisingly, the United States of America is in first place, having judged to have the best military in the world.
Russia comes in as a very close second, with the People’s Republic of China in third place. India is fourth, while France rounds out the top 5.
Egypt is the highest ranked African nation at number 12, followed by Algeria at 26 and Ethiopia at 42.
One of the factors that boosted Nigeria’s ranking was the population, with a reported available manpower of 72,400,000.
The Naval strength was a low point, with Nigeria having no aircraft carriers, submarines or corvettes.
