Two goals in Chile’s 3-1 win over Uruguay means Alexis Sanchez is now one goal away from being Chile’s top goalscorer ever.

He had suffered a low grade hamstring tear last week, and there were doubts that he’d be able to play for Chile in the crucial World Cup qualifier.

The Arsenal forward however showed no signs of stress, and put on an impressive performance despite being heavily bandaged during training for the match.

Sanchez was previously level on goals with Chilean legend Ivan Zamorano at second place, both having scored 34 goals. His brace now puts him at 36, one behind Marcelo Salas, who scored 37 goals in his playing career for the national team.

There are however no international games till March, so Sanchez will just have to be patient.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger had previously expressed fears over Sanchez’s conditioning, and would have not been too happy that he played all of 84 minutes before being taken out by Chile coach Juan Antonio Pizzi.
