Barcelona superstar Neymar will head to court after losing an appeal related to his transfer to Barcelona in 2013.

The case was submitted by Brazilian investment group DIS, who owned part of Neymar’s rights and felt they were cheated in his transfer from Santos to Barcelona.

Neymar’s parents and Santos are also included in the suit, and will now have to stand trial.

“Santos FC, FC Barcelona, Neymar, his mother Nadine Goncalves and N&N, the family company, have lost their appeals to have charges of fraud and corruption dropped,” the Spanish High Court said in a statement on Monday.

Prosecutors are seeking a two-year prison sentence and a fine of nearly £8 million for Neymar, £7.2 million for FC Barcelona and £5.6 million for Santos.

Neymar’s Barca teammate Lionel Messi was handed a 21-month jail term last year for a similar offence, but had his jail term suspended as a first time offender.
