Tottenham’s Dele Alli has been handed a 3-match ban in European club competitions after his sending off against Gent last month.

Alli had been sent off during Tottenham’s 2-2 second leg draw with the Belgian side, a result that had confirmed their exit from the UEFA Europa League.

The red card is the first of Alli’s career, and he’d now miss the Spurs’ next three matches in European competitions.

“He is very disappointed and sad. In football, it happens. He knows he made a mistake,” Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino told a postmatch news conference.

“Now he tries to move on and improve. In the future, we must avoid that [kind of] situation.”
