One of the story’s in the footballing world in 2016 was the emergence of Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.

As he turns 19 today, we look back at a player who was virtually unknown in January, but has now become a beacon of light and hope for Manchester United and England.

Rashford made his first team debut for Manchester United in the Europa League, after being called up to replace fellow young star Anthony Martial, who got injured in the pre-game warm up against FC Midtjylland. The young star didn’t mind the abrupt call-up, and put two in the net as United raced to a 5-1 win.

The goals didn’t stop there for Rashford, and making his Premier League debut against Arsenal 3 days later, scored a brace and provided an assist. At this point, everybody knew that United had something special in Rashford.

The then 18-year old seemed to have a penchant for debuts, and in his debut Manchester Derby, scored the only goal of the game to give United a hard-fought win. His magic didn’t end at United, also scoring a hattrick in his England U-21 debut and scoring in his England senior debut.

Known for his pace and his eagerness to beat his defender, Marcus Rashford has already become a favorite among the Old Trafford faithful. As he turns 19, the fans certainly hope the goals keep on coming.
