An own goal from starlet Alex Iwobi has severely harmed Arsenal’s chances of finishing in their UEFA Champions League group as it gave PSG a 2-2 draw.
Finishing top spot is now in the hands of the French giants and they’d have the Nigerian forward to thank for deflecting Lucas Moura’s header past goalkeeper Davide Ospina.
Arsenal might not feel too hard done, especially as the lead was handed to them also courtesy an own goal. A shot attempt from Aaron Ramsey had ricocheted comically of PSG midfielder Marco Verratti and past goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
PSG had initially taken the lead through striker Edinson Cavani in the 18th minute. Gunners forward Olivier Giroud leveled matters on the stroke of half time, converting a very controversial penalty award to Alexis Sanchez.
Sanchez had been adjudged to have been brought down by Grzegorz Krychowiak, but replays showed there was minimal, if any, contact.
The scoreline and the result might have been different in the end, but Cavani, as he was in the first leg, was profligate, wasting a bunch of chances.
Arsenal will now have to hope PSG drop points in their next match at home to Ludogorets, while they must win at Basel to gain the first spot.
