Nigeria’s national men football team. The Super Eagles will play the French island of Corsica in a friendly in May.

The friendly is Nigeria’s preparation for its 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa later that month, and its 2018 World Cup qualifier in August.

The friendly was arranged after Burkina Faso pulled out of Monday’s friendly match in London, after 7 of their players were not awarded visas.

I’m not sure how much challenge a team like Corsica, that isn’t even recognized by FIFA, would offer the Super Eagles.

Considering that the match is in May, one can understand that the Nigerian Football Federation had little options because it is such short notice.

There are 211 football associations however, and I’d find it hard to believe that the NFF couldn’t find one to arrange a friendly with.

The NFF will have a hard job convincing Nigerians that a friendly with a nation many of them have never even heard of before, will help the team prepare for an AFCON and WC qualifier.
