The Super Eagles of Nigeria are now the 39th ranked national football, per the latest ranking from world football’s governing body, FIFA.

A 2-0 loss to South Africa in their 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations was certainly a factor in the drop, with the Super Eagles facing the possibility of missing a spot in the tourney.

The Eagles dropped a spot as they lost 15 points, going from 730 to 715. They also became the 6th ranked nation in Africa, behind Egypt, Senegal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tunisia and Cameroon.

Germany’s victory in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup was enough to take them to first place, over Brazil and Argentina.

European neighbours, Poland (6th, up 4) also have cause to celebrate, having risen to their best-ever ranking. Spain, however, dropped from the first ten to now place 11th.
