The loss brought Murray back to earth, his first in 28 games, 5 tournaments and since September 2016.

Their last previous meeting was at last month’s ATP World Tour finals, which Murray had won.

They could possibly meet again with the Australian Open later this month, with Djokovic eager to defend his crown. The Australian Open is the first grand slam of the calendar year, and will kick off on the 16th of January.
