The first and third wives of American president Donald Trump, Ivana and Melania Trump, recently engaged in a public war-of-words.
Ivana Trump, who is releasing a memoir, Raising Trump, said in an interview with Good Morning America that being Trump’s first wife made her the First Lady.
Trump boasted of having the “direct number” to her ex-husband at the White House, telling ABC News she talks to the President about once every 14 days.
“I have the direct number to White House but I don’t really want to call him there because Melania is there and I don’t really want to cause any kind of jealousy or something like that because I’m basically first Trump wife, OK? I’m first lady, OK?” she told ABC, laughing.
Ivana Trump is the mother of the President’s three eldest children, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric.
The couple divorced in 1992 following his tabloid affair with who would eventually become his second wife, British actress Marla Maples.
Melania Trump, who’s the official First Lady as she’s currently married to Donald, didn’t take the comments lightly, and her office responded with a harsh statement.
“Mrs. Trump has made the White House a home for Barron and the President. She loves living in Washington, DC, and is honored by her role as first lady of the United States. She plans to use her title and role to help children, not sell books,” Melania’s communications director, Stephanie Grisham said, adding, “There is clearly no substance to this statement from an ex, this is unfortunately only attention-seeking and self-serving noise.”
Andy Cohen, the executive producer of the Real Housewives franchise, said he was lost for words by the clash.
“This is actually happening. All the wives are fighting. Even I AM SPEECHLESS,” the TV presenter tweeted.
“Only one person can mediate this! @FLOTUS #Ivana @itsmarlamaples @IvankaTrump please call me. Let’s do this. #RHOWHReunion.”
