A bunch of offensive and mean comments from cyber-bullies has forced award-winning singer Ed Sheeran to quit social network, Twitter.
Sheeran told the Sun: “I’ve actually come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it. I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things.”
The British singer’s Divide album is the best selling album of 2017 so far, having already gone 8 times platinum.
He also added that some of the lungs came from Lady Gaga fans. “[They] read an interview in which they assumed I was talking about her and they all fucking hate. And it wasn’t anything to do with that at all.”
It’s not the first time a celebrity would leave Twitter over hate comments. Normani Kordei of US girl group Fifth Harmony, actress Leslie Jones and singer Lily Allen have all taken breaks from the service over similar occurrences.
The social media platform has been introducing measures to try to prevent abuse, including a “safe search” function that keeps abusive tweets out of search results.
It also now hides offensive replies to tweets, except the user requests to see them.
