Jimmy Kimmel reveals Oscar pay
The 2017 Oscars will be hosted by talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, and he recently revealed how much he’d be paid for the gig.
In an radio interview with KROQ, he revealed that he’d be going home with $15,000 (N4.7 million) after completing his hosting duties.
The amount is considerably low given the profile of the Oscars, and one can only assume that the Oscars is like those Nigerian clients that think it’s cool to pay in exposure.
“You know why? I think it’s illegal to pay nothing,” he joked. “I’m not sure I was supposed to reveal this,” the host added. “But nobody told me not to. I consider this their fault.”
Kimmel hosts Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC, and admitted he wasn’t expecting the call. “They asked like 14 people and they all said no and then there was me,” he said, “I absolutely was surprised.”
“The producers and the Academy went through a long list of names, and in the end, they decided that – since I am already right across the street from where they do the show – I was the closest person to host.”
The 89th Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on 26 February, 2017.
