Mavin Records singer Korede Bello recently released his much-anticipated debut album, Belloved.
The album is quite short at just 11 tracks and only 35 minutes of playing time. This isn’t helped by the fact that the album itself is quite disappointing.
None of the songs seem to be on the same level as his previous singles like Do Like That and Romantic, and the decision to not feature anybody on the album seems like a bad decision in hindsight.
With that in mind, these are our 3 favorite (read as most tolerable) songs off Belloved.
3. Smile: Korede Bello’s forte has always been love songs, and it’s no surprise that most of the album has a love theme. On Smile, Korede sings to his love, with a bunch of playful lyrics over a highlife beat that makes the song just sweet enough for a repeat listen.
2. Ese Baba: Korede showed us his ability to rock a gospel song on Godwin, and he does it again on Ese Baba. While it’s not as hippy as Godwin, Ese Baba, which samples a popular gospel song of the same title, is calmer and more reverent.
1. Favorite Song: I think Korede Bello knew this would be the best song on the album, hence the title. An almost Chris Brown-ish love song, Favorite Song is the peak of lyrical and vocal ability on Belloved. It’s not surprise Favorite Song is our favorite song.
