If you’ve followed the fashion scene in Nigeria recently, you’ll know that Deola Sagoe is currently the hottest thing out there.
From being worn at the Black Panther worldwide premiere by actress Sope Aluko, to designing wedding dresses for Aliko Dangote and VP Yemi Osinbajo’s daughters, Deola Sagoe has become highly sought after in recent times.
The fashion designer recently released a new advert, which caused a stir because of the number of white women present in it.
Deola hasn’t finished selling to black Americans/Europeans or even southern Americans with Yoruba heritage it’s now Asians she’s targeting. 🤨

I get what (marketing angle) Deola Sagoe may be pushing with her ad. But using primarily white women wearing the ‘Komole’ design to promote it is kinda sour.
Western designers for a long time never used black models to make their designs appeal to us.
We wore them anyway. So💁🏾

I think Deola’s ads would have been better if she’d used black women.
I imagine that non Africans would be more inclined to buy primarily because the brand is *different*, because they hold a full allure of Africa.
