Lifetime has released an official trailer for its latest celebrity biopic, Searching For Neverland, about Michael Jackson.
The movie is based on a book written by the late superstar’s personal bodyguards, Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard, titled Remember the Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in His Final Days.
Jackson is played by popular impersonator Navi, and former The Walking Dead actor Chad L. Coleman who plays Whitfield.
According to Lifetime, the biopic tells the story of the final two years of Jackson’s life told through the eyes of two men who knew him best, his bodyguards Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard. The movie is about an icon, but it also tells the story of him being a father to his children.
“He doesn’t want to be the King of Pop. He just wants to be Mike,” said one of the bodyguards in a voiceover. “A normal American dad.”
The trailer also shows police questioning the bodyguards about Jackson’s death and Dr. Conrad Murray’s involvement. The doctor was the person who administered the fatal dose of Propofol before the singer’s death in June 2009.
In 2001, Dr. Conrad Murray was sentenced to four years in prison following his conviction for involuntary manslaughter in the death of Jackson.
Michael Jackson: Searching for Neverland will premiere on Memorial Day, May 29, on Lifetime. Watch the trailer below.
