After years filled with lawsuits, emotional turmoils and more, pop star Kesha is finally back on the music scene with new song, Praying.
She also announced that she’d be releasing her first album in 5 years. The album is titled Rainbow, and will be released on the 11th of August.
The video starts with a monologue that echoes the hurt and pain she’s been through over the years.
Kesha has been away as she battled producer Dr. Luke in courts, claiming he emotionally and sexually abused her.
“Am I dead? Or is this one of those dreams? Those horrible dreams that seem like they last forever? If I am alive, why? Why? If there is a God or whatever, something, somewhere, why have I been abandoned by everyone and everything I’ve ever known? I’ve ever loved?,” she says in the intro.
“Stranded. What is the lesson? What is the point? God, give me a sign, or I have to give up. I can’t do this anymore. Please just let me die. Being alive hurts too much.”
The singer revealed that she’s better than before, as she sings: “I’m proud of who I am/ No more monsters I can breathe again/ And you said that I was done/ But you were wrong and now the best is yet to come/ Cuz I can make it on my own/ I don’t need you, I found strength I’ve never known.”
The song was produced by Ryan Lewis, with the video directed by Jonas Akerlund.
“‘Praying’ was written about that moment when the sun starts peeking through the darkest storm clouds, creating the most beautiful rainbow,” she wrote about the song on Lena Dunham’s website, Lenny..
“I dragged myself out of bed and took my emotions to the studio and made art out of them. And I have never been happier with a body of work as I am with this record,” she added. “It’s from our darkest moments that we gain the most strength.”
