Iconic Afrobeat singer Femi Kuti has broken a saxophone record belonging to legendary saxophonist, Kenny G.
In 1997, Kenny G had held an E-flat for 45 minutes, using a skill known as circulation breathing.
A new record was then set in February 2000 by Vann Burchfield, after he held a note for a time of 47 minutes and 6 seconds.
Back in 2016, there were reports that Kenny G was attempting to set a new record, but Femi Kuti has beat him to it.
Femi Kuti didn’t quite make it to Burchfield’s time, but he surpassed Kenny G’s time as he made it to 46 minutes and 38 seconds.
The impressive feat took place at the New Africa Shrine on the 7th of May, 2017.
Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, the deputy high commissioners of Netherlands and The United Kingdom were among a large audience on hand to witness the feat.
Congratulations, Femi Kuti!
