Another drama-filled day in Nigerian politics has seen Senator Godswill Akpabio complete his defection to the All Progressives Congress.
Akpabio officially defected to the ruling party on Wednesday, August 8, at the Ikot-Ekpene township stadium in Akwa Ibom.
Present at the defection ceremony were the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole; Senate majority leader, Ahmed Lawan; national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; and Nigeria’s minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
Shortly after his defection, the state government, currently ruled by the Peoples Democratic Party’s Udom Emmanuel, revealed that the state’s bank accounts have been frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The EFCC froze “all bank accounts” owned by Akwa Ibom State, the state information commissioner Charles Udoh said on Wednesday.
Udoh said state authorities only learnt of the development today, and there were no prior indications from the anti-graft agency.
