The reason why Imo state created Ministry of Happiness
Imo state governor Rochas Okorocha has explained the state’s reasoning behind the creation of a Ministry of Happiness.
The Ministry, headed by Okorocha’s sister, Hon Mrs Ogechi Ololo, created a lot of controversy following its announcement.
In a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, in Owerri, Okorocha explained that he observed the people of the state were bitter and therefore created the new ministry to archive happiness for them.
The statement reads: “The real essence of life is to be happy and to fulfill one’s purpose in life. Government officials are elected to address this. This is the very reason people elect their leaders to guarantee their happiness and purpose fulfillment.
“There is no activity of mankind that is not geared towards providing happiness.
“Unfortunately, this vital element of our social lives has not been properly addressed. Governments at different levels have created several ministries and departments to achieve this, yet people are bitter, angry with hate speeches which lead to crisis, war, and even terrorism.
“In today’s world, especially in our country, millions of people are not fulfilling their purpose in life because of lack of mentorship and guidance. There is complete talent abuse as people no longer engage in life activities suitable to their talents.
“Sometimes in university environments, students are meant to study courses they ordinarily would like to do.
“This has given rise to why we have people who are favored, do work against their natural will just to survive.
“Happiness and Purpose Ministry, therefore, is established for the lost time to correct the policy framework to guide Ministries and Department son what they must do to guarantee the citizens happiness and contribute better to the society.”
“Ministry of Happiness for the benefit of all Imo people”
Moreover, the state Commissioner For Information, Prof Obiaraeri N.O. has also explained that the novel Ministry was created for the attainment of the happiness of all Imo people.
A statement released by the Commissioner reads in part:
“It must be noted that the Ministry of Happiness and Purpose Fulfilment was created in line with the power of the Governor to create any Ministry or Ministries and or assign portfolios and responsibilities as clearly captured in section 192 (2) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
“It is public knowledge that, in the realization of the mantra of the Rescue Mission Government that Imo Must Be Better, the Imo State Government has done sundry and uncountable positive things to deliver tangible and intangible dividends of democracy to the good people Imo people.
“Imo State Government is aware that security and welfare of the people is clearly the primary purpose of government as recognized in section 142 (2)(b) of the selfsame 1999 Constitution and will, therefore, spare no effort in bringing this to fruition.
“In life, it is a truism that some are rich but are not happy or not fulfilled. Some are also in search of means of fulfilling their purpose in life.
“Unhappiness and frustration are in different facades and can be caused by many factors.
“All humans are created with the inert abilities to fulfill their purposes in life and it the bounden duty of any responsible and responsive Government to consciously help its citizens to attain these ideals.”
According to Prof Obiaraeri, the desire and high point of the dream of the Governor of Imo State is that Imo people are happy and fulfilled irrespective of age or social or economic challenges.
Given that hate speeches, militancy, violent crimes and other forms of anti-social behaviours are all products of unhappiness and frustration, he stated that the new “Ministry of Happiness and Purpose Fulfilment” has been created to develop policies and programmes and formulate guidelines for Government and its agencies towards the conscious promotion of happiness in Imo State.
“This unmatched and nascent “Ministry of Happiness and Purpose Fulfilment” is to be ably supervised by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor on Domestic Matters and Food Security, Hon Mrs Ogechi Ololo,” he said.
The Commissioner stressed that there should be no shame or reproach in the idea that Imo State Government is blazing the trail in the ceaseless promotion of the well being and happiness of the generality of Ndi Imo as that is the primary purpose of the Imo Rescue Mission Government.
