Khaleed Al-Makura, son of Nasarawa state governor Umar Al-Makura, has been arrested by police over the death of a student.
According to the allegations, Khaleed killed Ovye Amos, a Junior Secondary School 2 student of Government Secondary School, Lafia in a hit-and-run incident.
The incident occurred around 8pm on Sunday 19th March, when Amos was out looking for batteries for his torch.
Students of the school have already protested, demanding that the case not be ignored by the police.
The state Commissioner for Education, Aliyu Tijani, has however confirmed that Khaleed has been arrested and the case is now under investigation.
“I want to express my profound dismay and sadness over what happened here yesterday. It is unfortunate, very very unfortunate,’’ he added.
The area commander of the Lafia police office, Mr. Maikudi Shehu said: “It is a painful thing, we sympathise and empathise with you and we assure you that investigation is ongoing and that particular culprit as we are speaking now is under detention in our custody.”
“We will keep you informed of developments as they unfold,” he added.
