Don Wanny, a notorious militant leader and cultist in Rivers state has been killed by security operatives.

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, ONELGA, of the state, Osi Olisa, confirmed the incident.

He was said to be one of six suspected militants killed in the operation, which occurred around Ali-Ugo junction in the state.

Don Wanny has reportedly gone back to a life of crime, after being granted amnesty by state governor Nyesom Wike. He was accused of a number of killings in Omoku, including the murders of two OSPAC personnel and a civilian in Okposi and Omoku respectively.

The gun battle occurred around 8:45pm on Sunday in Rivers state, with citizens of the state turning out to celebrate his death en masse.

His body was however not among the bodies paraded at the council headquarters, with reports stating that he fell into a river after being shot.

The Public Relations Officer of Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, refused to comment on the incident, saying that a formal statement would be released in the future.
