Nigeria’s only individual Olympic gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa-Okpara, has secured a promotion in the Nigerian Police Force.

She was recently promoted from Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police. The ceremony took place at the grounds of the Police College, Ikeja.

She also recently launched the Chioma Ajunwa-Okpara Foundation, aimed at discover new stars that will take the country to new heights.

Ajunwa was already in the police force when she won the gold medal in Long Jump at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

She remains Nigeria’s only individual gold medal winner, and is the first black African woman to win an Olympic gold medal in a field event.

Nigeria’s only other Olympic gold medals are the men’s football team’s victory, also at Atlanta, and the quartet of Sunday Bada, Clement Chukwu, Jude Monye and Enefiok Udo-Obong at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
