St. George’s University in Grenada has reacted to news of sexual misconduct allegations against one of its professors, Francis Fakoya.
A former student of Fakoya’s at Obafemi Awolowo University, moved by Oprah Winfrey’s speech at the 2018 Golden Globes, revealed how he failed her twice in school because she refused to give in to him.
Her post went viral, with multiple media platforms sharing her story.
The report eventually got to the school, which has now promised an investigation into the matter.
A statement on the school’s Facebook page reads: “St. George’s University (SGU) has been made aware of allegations against a member of its faculty, while previously employed by a university in Nigeria. At SGU, we take all allegations of sexual misconduct very seriously.
“In light of these allegations, a thorough investigation into this matter has been initiated and appropriate action will be taken.”
