Swiss government signs deal with World Bank to return $321 million to Nigeria

About $321 million in assets looted by Sani Abacha is set to be returned to Nigeria by the Switzerland.

The Swiss government signed a deal to return the money with the World Bank, who will oversee the deal and monitor the funds.

Abacha, who lead Nigeria for 5 years between 1993 and 1998, is rumored to have looted over $5 billion in public funds.

“The project will strengthen social security for the poorest sections of the Nigerian population. The agreement also regulates the disbursement of restituted funds in tranches and sets out concrete measures to be taken in the event of misuse or corruption,” it added.
