A prank gone wrong has led to the death of a YouTuber, Pedro Ruiz III, at the hands of his girlfriend, Monalisa Perez.
The couple have a YouTube channel where they post pranks, and in a bid to get more subscribers to their channel, decided to make their pranks a little crazier.
On Monday evening, Pedro convinced Monalisa to shoot him in the chest, while he held a book in front of him. The book was supposed to stop the bullet, but didn’t. Pedro died at the scene.
Perez was arrested on suspicion of reckless discharge of a firearm. On Wednesday, she was charged with second-degree manslaughter. The charge could land her 10 years in jail and a fine of up to $20,000.
“I really have no idea what they were thinking,” Sheriff Jeremy Thornton of Norman County said Wednesday. “I just don’t understand the younger generation on trying to get their 15 minutes of fame.”
The couple have one kid together, and Monalisa is 7 months pregnant with the couple’s second.
