Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is now worth an amazing $151 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
While he’s obviously the richest man alive, he’s also the richest man ever, as far as modern history is concerned.
The second richest person, Bill Gates, is about $55 billion behind. The gap would reportedly be much closer if he didn’t give out so much to charity. He’s donated almost 700 million Microsoft shares and $2.9 billion of cash and other assets since 1996, according to an analysis of his publicly disclosed giving.
The $151 billion is the highest since 1982 when Forbes began its annual Billionaires ranking.
Bezos made the most of his money through Amazon, but also has investments in a number of companies ranging from The Washington Post to Twitter.
The news will however further annoy Amazon staff in Europe, who are currently on strike over both low pay and poor working conditions.
