Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has told the Croatian team it would be unfair to rest players in their final game.

Ahmed Musa scored twice to give the Super Eagles a 2-0 victory over Iceland, keeping their qualification dreams alive.

Nigeria will face Argentina in their final group game, while Iceland face the already qualified Croatia. With all teams in the group still fighting for qualification, Mikel is concerned that Croatia may give Iceland a lifeline by resting players.

Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic already stated that some of his key players would be given rests to conserve their fitness, something Mikel Obi isn’t comfortable with.

“I don’t think it’s the best thing to do,” he told Goal. “This is a massive tournament – you can’t rest people and give others a chance of qualification.

“They should be professional and play their best team. This is such a big stage that you can’t rest players just to help other teams to qualify.”
