Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan have revealed that they were soundly rejected by Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney.

The club reportedly contacted both Rooney and his agent, Paul Stretford, regarding a move to the Asian side. They were however rejected, with Rooney wanting to play in England for as long as he could.

“We indeed make an approach for Rooney at the beginning of the season but he’s informed us that he wants to stay in Manchester United,” Guoan’s honorary chairman Luo Ning said.

“Rooney says he’ll keep playing in the Premier League as long as his health allows. We even met with his agent.”

Rooney has had a rough start to the 2016/17 footballing season, losing his starting place for both Manchester United and England. He is however reportedly prepared to stay and fight for his place in both teams.

The Chinese Super League has used its seemingly unlimited purse to attract a host of top players from around the world. Players who once played in the Premier League like Graziano Pelle, Ramires and Demba Ba all currently play in the Asian spectacle.
