Footballer James Rodriguez has announced a split from his wife of 6 years, Daniela Ospina.
The divorce comes barely weeks after he joined German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on a 2-year loan from Real Madrid.
Daniele is the sister of Arsenal and Colombia goalkeeper, Davide Ospina. The couple have a 4-year old daughter together.
According to Colombian radio station Caracol, the pair have decided to call time on their six-year marriage due to becoming estranged from one another.
It is reported that their house in Medellin has already been sold, while Daniela is to keep their property in Miami. The 24-year-old will also have custody of their daughter, Salome.
She has since confirmed the news on Instagram, declaring they ended on good terms, with their sole focus on the well-being of their child.
In a picture she posted of three, she captioned it: “Daniela Ospina and James Rodriguez, parents of Salome Rodriguez Ospina, have confirmed their separation after six-and-a-half-years-of-marriage.
“This has been realised in the best terms and strongest agreement, maintaining a relationship extraordinarily full of love and respect were the wellbeing of Salome always comes first and being life partners in her growth and education.
“Both of them have encountered huge professional challenges in different countries. Daniela will now settle in Colombia, launching her own brand with domestic and international projects to come.
“James is in Germany, ready to continue reaping triumphs, full of pride in a country he keeps in his heart.
“He, from there [Germany], very involved in Daniela’s new course, and her, together with Salome, persistently supporting him from here [Colombia].
“We understand the repercussions of this news, but we thank the media for the handling [of this news] always [looking out for] for the well-being of the three [James, Daniela, Salome], [and] respecting above everything the privacy of a family much loved by Colombians.
“James and Daniela will not be granting interviews. Thank you for understanding.”
She recently congratulated the former Porto and Monaco star on his move, writing on Instagram: “You are not what you achieve… you are what you overcome.”
