Portuguese defender Pepe has joined Turkish League champions Besiktas on a free transfer.

The 34-year old centre back’s contract had expired at the end of last season, with Real Madrid refusing to renew his contract.

The club hasn’t officially announced the deal, though pictures of Pepe in a Besiktas jersey have surfaced.

During his 10 years in Madrid, Pepe played on teams that won three Champions League trophies and three La Liga titles, but had fallen down the pecking order for Zinedine Zidane in recent months in part due to injuries.

Pepe reportedly had a medical at Paris St-Germain before opting for Besiktas. He reportedly signed a 3-year deal with Besiktas, and will receive  €3.25million per season.
