Google has released it annual Best of the Year lists for the content that trended the most over the course of 2016, including apps and movies.
Based on how much they were downloaded from Google Play, the search giant shared the top apps, games, songs, movies, TV shows, and books of 2016.
It seemed to be the year of the selfie, as three of the top trending apps were photo-editing apps: Face Changer 2, Lumyer – Photo & Selfie Editor and MSQRD. Pokemon Go unsurprisingly was the most downloaded game of the year, recording over 100 million downloads worldwide as augmented reality gained mainstream attention.
Twenty One Pilots’ Stressed Out did just enough to edge out Justin Bieber’s Sorry for Top Streamed Song, and R-rated anti-superhero flick Deadpool was named the Top Movie of The Year.
Game Of Thrones was unsurprisingly the TV show of the year, with HBO’s masterpiece one of the most watched and also most illegally downloaded TV shows of all time. J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter & The Cursed Child was named the second top new book of 2016, losing out to Cullen Bunn’s Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe.
